You have discovered a lot of rubbish in a lake near where you live. In the past, the lake had always been clean.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter:
describe the type of rubbish that you saw in the lake
explain where you think the waste has come from
suggest what the council should do about the problem

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform you about a serious environmental concern regarding the lake near my neighbourhood, which has traditionally been well maintained and clean. Recently, however, I was disappointed to see a large amount of rubbish polluting the area.
The waste included plastic bottles, food packaging, disposable cups, and polythene bags floating on the water surface. Additionally, some broken glass and discarded fishing equipment were scattered along the lake shore. This accumulation of non-biodegradable waste not only ruins the natural beauty of the lake but also poses a threat to aquatic life.
In my opinion, this problem may have arisen due to the growing number of visitors using the lake as a picnic and leisure spot. The absence of sufficient waste bins and a lack of regular monitoring appear to have encouraged careless disposal of rubbish.
I would strongly recommend that the council take immediate action by organising routine clean-up operations and installing more waste disposal facilities around the lake. Moreover, placing warning signs and enforcing penalties for littering could help prevent further damage. Raising public awareness through local campaigns would also be highly beneficial.
I hope the council will address this matter promptly and take the necessary steps to restore the lake to its original condition.
