PART 1 — Houses & Neighbourhood

1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?

I live in an apartment at the moment. It’s not very big, but it’s comfortable and fits my lifestyle well, especially since I don’t need a lot of space for myself.

2. How long have you lived there?

I’ve been there for about three years. I moved in when I started my studies, and since then, it has become a familiar and convenient place for me.

3. What do you like most about your apartment?

The thing I like the most is the natural light. There’s a huge window in the living room, so the whole place feels bright and cheerful. It makes the apartment feel more spacious and helps me stay productive.

4. Is there anything you would like to change about it?

Yes, I would definitely upgrade the kitchen. It’s quite small, and I often struggle for counter space, especially when I’m cooking multiple things at once.

5. How would you describe your neighbourhood?

My neighbourhood is calm and friendly. The streets are clean, and people are polite but not overly curious. It’s the kind of area where you feel safe walking around even late in the evening.

6. Do you know many of your neighbours?

I know a few of them casually. We exchange greetings when we meet, but we haven’t developed close relationships. Everyone seems busy with their own routines.

7. What facilities are available in your local area?

There’s a supermarket, a pharmacy, a gym, and a public park within walking distance. These facilities make daily life really convenient because I don’t have to travel far for basic things.

8. Is your locality a good place for families to live?

Yes, it’s ideal for families. The area is safe, the schools nearby have good reputations, and there are plenty of open spaces for children to play and socialise.

9. Would you like to live in the same area in the future?

I wouldn’t mind, but it depends on my career. If I get an opportunity in a better area, I might consider moving. Otherwise, I’m quite satisfied where I am.

PART 2 — Cue Card

Describe a comedian you find interesting or admire.

Sample Answer:

A comedian I truly admire is Vir Das, a well-known Indian stand-up comedian. I discovered him through one of his Netflix shows, which appeared randomly on my recommended list. Out of curiosity, I clicked on it, and I ended up watching several of his performances afterwards.

He mostly performs observational comedy, where he picks everyday situations, cultural habits, and social differences and turns them into something extremely entertaining. His humour is very intelligent — it’s not just about making people laugh but also about making them think.

What I find most impressive is the way he handles sensitive issues. He talks about topics like identity, politics, and society, but he uses subtle humour, so the message reaches the audience without sounding aggressive or offensive. His timing, expressions, and storytelling skills are exceptional, which makes his performances enjoyable from beginning to end.

Overall, I find him entertaining because his comedy has depth. It’s not mindless humour; it’s humour with purpose. Every time I watch him, I feel both entertained and slightly more aware of the world around me.

PART 3 — Discussion

1. What is the importance of comedy in people’s lives?

Comedy plays a vital role because it acts as a form of emotional release. People deal with stress, fatigue, and pressure daily, and humour helps them relax and look at life more positively. It also brings people together because laughter creates a sense of connection.

2. How do comedians influence society through their work?

Comedians often highlight social issues through humour, making people think without feeling defensive. They open the door for conversations about politics, culture, and human behaviour. Some comedians even challenge stereotypes and outdated beliefs.

3. Do you think comedy can be used to discuss serious social issues?

Yes, absolutely. When serious topics are presented through humour, the audience becomes more open-minded. It’s easier to accept criticism or reflect on problems when they’re wrapped in a light, entertaining format. Good comedians know how to balance seriousness and humour effectively.

4. How have comedy movies changed over the years?

Earlier, comedy movies mostly relied on physical humour and exaggerated actions. Today, audiences prefer witty dialogues, clever writing, and realistic characters. Modern comedy often blends with drama or romance, creating more relatable and meaningful stories.

5. Why do some people enjoy watching comedy films more than others?

People’s preferences depend on their personality, stress levels, and sense of humour. Some people watch comedy to escape their worries, while others prefer intense genres like action or thrillers. Cultural background also influences what people find funny.

6. Do you think comedians have a responsibility to avoid offending people?

To some extent, yes. They should be aware of cultural sensitivities and avoid targeting specific communities unfairly. However, comedy also needs creative freedom. The key is balance — comedians should express themselves freely but still maintain respect and avoid unnecessary harm.
