📌 IELTS General Writing Task 1: Letter to the manager about issues at a recently opened facility

Question:

You went to a facility in a shopping mall that opened recently. You faced some problems.
Write a letter to the manager about the issues you faced. In your letter:

  • explain what problems you had

  • suggest how the facility could be improved

  • say what you expect the manager to do

✍️ Sample Answer:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my concern about some issues I experienced during my recent visit to your newly opened entertainment facility in the Greenfield Shopping Mall.

Last weekend, I visited your gaming arcade with my friends, as we had heard about its grand opening. While the facility is impressive in terms of size and variety of games, unfortunately, we faced a few problems that made the experience less enjoyable. Firstly, several gaming machines were out of order, and no staff member was available nearby to assist us. Secondly, the air-conditioning system seemed to be malfunctioning, which made the place uncomfortably warm and stuffy. Lastly, there was a long queue at the counter as only one cashier was attending to all the customers.

I would like to suggest a few measures to improve the service. It would be helpful if regular maintenance checks could be carried out on all the equipment. Moreover, deploying more staff members on weekends would help manage the crowd better. Finally, I recommend fixing the air-conditioning to ensure a pleasant atmosphere for visitors.

I hope you will take my feedback into consideration, as your facility has great potential to become a favourite spot for shoppers and families.

Yours faithfully,
[Your Name]
