The maps below show Hunderstone town at present and a proposed plan for it.
Sample answer:
The maps illustrate the current layout of Hunderstone town and a proposed plan for its redevelopment.
Overall, the plan involves significant changes, including the construction of a new road (A4), an industrial estate, and an additional roundabout to improve connectivity and expand the town’s infrastructure.
Currently, the town features a main road (A2) running through a roundabout to the south-west, with a gas station located nearby. To the north-west lies an airfield, and the railway runs vertically to the east of the town centre. The built-up area surrounds the town centre, which is encircled by a ring road, while the railway separates it from the airfield. At present, there is no direct link between the south and the eastern side of the town.
According to the proposed plan, a new road (A4) will be constructed, connecting the south to the east, running parallel to the railway and linking to the town centre. The airfield in the north-west will be replaced by an industrial estate, and an additional roundabout will be built to the east of the current roundabout to improve traffic flow. The gas station remains in place, but the new road network and industrial area will significantly modernise the town’s infrastructure.
