Essay Question

In some countries, it is now possible for people to buy a wide variety of foods transported from all over the world.
To what extent do the benefits of this development outweigh the drawbacks?

Sample Answer

The availability of a wide range of foods imported from different parts of the world has become increasingly common in many countries. While some argue that this trend has several negative consequences, I believe that its advantages significantly outweigh the drawbacks.

On the one hand, there are a few disadvantages to the global food trade. Firstly, transporting food over long distances contributes to carbon emissions, which accelerate climate change. For example, flying exotic fruits from South America to Europe consumes vast amounts of fuel, leading to environmental degradation. Secondly, the popularity of imported foods may discourage people from consuming locally grown produce. This not only harms domestic farmers but also weakens local economies, as profits are directed towards foreign companies rather than supporting regional agricultural industries.

On the other hand, the benefits of international food availability are far more substantial. To begin with, it offers consumers a wider variety of choices, allowing them to enjoy diverse cuisines and improve their diet. For instance, people in colder countries can consume tropical fruits such as mangoes or bananas year-round, which would otherwise be impossible. Moreover, global food trade fosters cultural exchange and brings people closer together, as individuals can experience the culinary traditions of different nations without leaving their home country. In addition, imported foods often fill gaps in local production. For example, countries with limited agricultural resources rely on imports to meet the demand for staple items, ensuring food security and preventing shortages.

In conclusion, although importing food from abroad has certain drawbacks, such as environmental harm and reduced support for local farmers, the advantages of variety, accessibility, and cultural exchange are far more significant. Therefore, I believe that the benefits of this development clearly outweigh its disadvantages.

🔹 IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Intro Questions

Friends

Q: Do you prefer to have a small group of close friends or a large circle of acquaintances?
A: I definitely prefer a small group of close friends. I believe quality is more important than quantity when it comes to friendship, and I feel more secure sharing my thoughts with people I can really trust.

Q: How often do you meet your friends?
A: Usually, I meet them on weekends. Sometimes we go to a café, sometimes we play outdoor games, and occasionally we just relax at someone’s home.

Vegetables

Q: Do you like eating vegetables?
A: Yes, absolutely. Vegetables are not only healthy but also very tasty if they’re cooked well. My favorite is spinach because it’s full of nutrients and I really enjoy the flavor.

Q: Did you eat vegetables when you were a child?
A: Honestly, no. Like most children, I tried to avoid them, but my parents encouraged me, and slowly I developed the habit.

Crops (related to hometown)

Q: What kinds of crops are grown in your hometown?
A: In my hometown, farmers mostly grow wheat, rice, and seasonal vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes. The soil is very fertile, so agriculture is the backbone of our area.

Q: Have you ever helped in growing crops?
A: Yes, once during my summer vacation I helped my uncle with harvesting vegetables. It was tough but exciting because I realized how much effort farmers put into their work.

🔹 IELTS Speaking Part 2 – Cue Card

Describe an exciting activity you tried for the first time.
You should say:

  • What it was

  • Where and when you tried it

  • Who you did it with

  • And explain why it was exciting

Sample Answer:

One of the most exciting activities I tried for the first time was harvesting crops in my hometown last year. My village is surrounded by green fields, and farming is the main source of income there. Even though I grew up watching my grandparents work in the fields, I had never experienced it myself until my friends encouraged me to try it during my last summer vacation.

We went to my uncle’s farm early in the morning, and the view of golden wheat and fresh vegetables was breathtaking. My friends and I were given small tools to help in the harvesting process. At first, I was a bit hesitant, but gradually I became comfortable and even enjoyed cutting cucumbers and tomatoes. The most memorable part was tasting the fresh produce directly from the field—it was far more delicious than anything I had eaten at home.

What made this activity truly exciting was the sense of teamwork and connection with nature. Doing it alongside my friends gave me a new perspective on how much hard work is required to grow the food we eat every day. It was a thrilling and meaningful experience that made me respect farmers even more.

Overall, this first-time activity was unforgettable because it not only gave me joy but also strengthened my bond with my friends and my roots in the village.

Sample Answer:

In recent years, it has been observed that children tend to spend more time playing video games instead of participating in outdoor physical activities. While this trend may provide some benefits in terms of entertainment and cognitive skills, I firmly believe that it causes more harm than good.

The most significant problem caused by excessive gaming is the negative impact on children’s health. Spending long hours in front of screens often leads to a sedentary lifestyle, which can result in obesity, poor eyesight, and lack of stamina. For instance, many young people today suffer from posture-related issues because of sitting for prolonged periods. Moreover, limited involvement in outdoor play restricts social interaction, as children fail to develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills that are usually learned through sports.

Although video games can enhance problem-solving skills and improve hand–eye coordination, the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages. Overindulgence in virtual worlds can lead to addiction, which not only affects academic performance but also hampers emotional well-being. In the long run, this may create a generation that is physically unfit and socially disconnected, which is undoubtedly a negative development for both individuals and society.

In conclusion, while playing video games may offer certain mental benefits, prioritizing them over physical activities leads to severe health, social, and psychological problems. Therefore, I strongly believe that this is a negative development, and children should be encouraged to strike a balance between virtual entertainment and real-life physical exercise.

The natural resources such as oil, forests and fresh water are being consumed at an alarming rate. What problem does it cause? How can we solve these problems? | ielts onestop real exam writing task 2 |

Sample Answer:

It is undeniable that natural resources such as oil, forests, and fresh water are being exploited at a rapid pace in today’s world. This overconsumption has led to a variety of serious issues, yet there are several effective measures that can be adopted to tackle them.

One of the major problems caused by excessive use of resources is environmental degradation. For example, the large-scale cutting of forests has resulted in loss of biodiversity and destruction of natural habitats. Similarly, overuse of oil and other fossil fuels has accelerated global warming, leading to unpredictable weather patterns, floods, and droughts. Another pressing issue is the shortage of clean water. In many parts of the world, fresh water is becoming scarce, which not only affects agriculture and food production but also poses a direct threat to human survival.

However, there are various solutions that can mitigate these challenges. Firstly, governments should enforce strict regulations on industries that exploit natural resources, such as promoting renewable energy sources like solar and wind instead of relying heavily on oil. Secondly, public awareness campaigns can play a vital role in encouraging people to adopt sustainable lifestyles—for instance, reducing water wastage, planting trees, and recycling products. Moreover, international cooperation is essential since many environmental problems, such as climate change, go beyond national borders and require global action.

In conclusion, the reckless use of natural resources leads to grave consequences including climate change, deforestation, and water scarcity. Nevertheless, with stricter laws, sustainable practices, and collective global efforts, these problems can certainly be alleviated.
