Cue Card: Describe an occasion when you lost your way

Detailed Sample Answer (Band 7.5–8)

One occasion when I clearly remember losing my way happened about a year ago when I visited a new city for the first time. I had gone there to attend a friend’s birthday celebration, and since I wasn’t familiar with the area, I decided to rely on my phone’s GPS to reach the location.

At one point, the GPS suddenly stopped working because of poor internet connectivity. I took a wrong turn and ended up in a quiet residential area instead of the main road. The streets looked unfamiliar, and there were hardly any people around, which made the situation a bit stressful. I realised that I had completely lost my sense of direction.

Initially, I felt anxious and confused because I was running late and didn’t know how far I was from my destination. For a few minutes, I just stood there trying to stay calm and think clearly. Instead of panicking, I decided to ask for help. I approached a local shopkeeper and explained my situation politely.

The shopkeeper was very kind and gave me clear directions. He also suggested a shortcut that helped me reach my destination much faster. After following his instructions, I finally found the correct road and reached my friend’s place safely.

This experience taught me the importance of staying calm in unfamiliar situations and not relying entirely on technology. It also reminded me that asking for help can often be the simplest and most effective solution when you’re lost.
