News reporters should cover national or international news rather than celebrities and sports events.
Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer

In the modern world, media plays a vital role in shaping public opinion and influencing people’s understanding of current affairs. Some individuals believe that journalists should focus more on national and international news instead of celebrities and sports. I strongly agree with this view because serious reporting contributes to public awareness and national progress, while entertainment news often distracts people from important issues.

To begin with, covering political, economic, and global issues helps people stay informed and make educated decisions. For instance, news about government policies, international conflicts, or environmental crises enables citizens to understand what is happening in the world and take responsible actions. When reporters prioritize real-world events, the media fulfills its purpose as the “fourth pillar of democracy.” Furthermore, national news keeps people connected with the progress and problems of their country, encouraging a sense of unity and civic responsibility.

On the other hand, excessive focus on celebrities, gossip, and sports creates a culture of superficiality. Many news channels highlight the private lives of actors and athletes just to attract viewers, but such stories rarely add value to society. This obsession with fame and glamour can shift people’s attention away from pressing concerns such as education, unemployment, and climate change. As a result, journalism loses its credibility and becomes more of an entertainment business than a reliable source of information.

However, it is also true that sports and entertainment news can have some positive influence. For example, sports coverage motivates young people to stay active, and cultural news can promote national pride. Yet, these should not dominate the headlines at the expense of more significant global and domestic issues.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that the media should devote greater attention to national and international matters rather than celebrity lifestyles or sports gossip. By doing so, journalism can educate the public, promote social awareness, and contribute to the overall development of society.
