Describe something that was broken in your home and then repaired

Sample Answer

I’d like to talk about a wooden chair in my house that broke a couple of months ago, and I actually repaired it myself. This incident stands out for me because I’m not usually the kind of person who fixes things, but this time I decided to give it a try.

One evening, when I sat on the chair, I suddenly heard a cracking sound. The leg of the chair had become loose, and it was tilting to one side. At first, everyone at home suggested throwing it away and buying a new one, but I felt it was still in good condition, so I thought of repairing it on my own.

I watched a short video online about fixing loose chair legs. Then I got some basic tools — wood glue, sandpaper, and a screwdriver. I removed the loose leg, cleaned the joint area, applied the glue properly, and tightened the screws. I left it to dry overnight.

The next morning, I checked it, and to my surprise, the chair had become completely stable again. It didn’t wobble or make any noise. My family members were actually impressed because they didn’t expect me to fix it so neatly.

This small repair made me feel quite confident. It also taught me that sometimes minor household problems can be solved easily without calling a carpenter or spending money unnecessarily.
