Some people believe that all company decisions should be taken by the managers, whereas others think it is better to include employees while making decisions. Discuss both points and give your opinion.


Band 8 Sample Answer:

In the corporate world, decision-making plays a crucial role in determining the success of a company. While some people argue that only managers should make important decisions, others believe that employees should also be involved in this process. In my opinion, although managers have the necessary expertise, including employees in decision-making can lead to more effective and innovative outcomes.

On the one hand, supporters of managerial control argue that managers possess the experience, training, and strategic vision required to make sound business decisions. Since they are responsible for overseeing operations and have a broader understanding of company goals, they are better equipped to take decisions that align with the organization’s objectives. For instance, in large corporations, top executives often rely on market research and financial data before introducing a new product. Allowing every employee to participate could slow down the process and create confusion. Therefore, limiting decision-making to managers ensures efficiency and accountability.

On the other hand, involving employees in decision-making can lead to greater motivation and creativity. Workers are directly involved in day-to-day operations and often have practical insights that managers might overlook. For example, a company that encourages employees to share their suggestions can identify potential problems early and improve productivity. Moreover, when employees feel that their opinions are valued, it fosters a sense of belonging and increases job satisfaction, which ultimately benefits the company as a whole.

In my view, the most effective approach is to maintain a balance between managerial authority and employee participation. While final decisions should rest with managers to ensure coherence and direction, employees should be consulted, especially in matters that affect their work directly. This collaborative approach can strengthen workplace relationships and promote long-term growth.

To conclude, although managers play a vital role in steering the company, involving employees in the decision-making process leads to better engagement and innovation. Hence, a combination of managerial leadership and employee participation is the key to organizational success.
