  2. Saves time and effort

    • Language learning takes years; translation tools provide instant results.

🔹 Reasons to Disagree (Languages are still valuable):

✍️ Band 7.5+ Sample Answer

In an age where artificial intelligence and real-time translation technologies have advanced significantly, some argue that learning new languages has become unnecessary. While these tools certainly offer convenience, I strongly disagree with the idea that learning a new language is a waste of time.

Firstly, language is more than a tool for communication—it is deeply tied to culture, emotion, and human connection. Real-time translators may convert words, but they cannot fully capture tone, humor, sarcasm, or cultural context. For instance, idiomatic expressions or culturally specific references often get lost or mistranslated, which can lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, learning a language offers a richer, more authentic way to connect with people from different backgrounds.

Secondly, there are cognitive benefits to learning a new language. Studies show that bilingual or multilingual individuals often have better memory, stronger problem-solving skills, and improved focus. These benefits go far beyond what any translation device can offer and contribute to overall intellectual development.

Lastly, in many academic and professional fields, language proficiency remains essential. Translators, diplomats, language teachers, and global business professionals rely on deep understanding of language nuances, which no machine can replicate perfectly. Moreover, relying too heavily on technology can lead to dependency and diminish our natural communication abilities.

In conclusion, although real-time translation tools are valuable for convenience and travel, they cannot replace the personal, cultural, and intellectual advantages that come with learning a new language. Thus, I believe that language learning is still highly relevant and far from being a waste of time.
